Hiking
Over 300 km of trails lead through glacier landscapes, alpine flora, and past more than 30 four-thousand-meter peaks. Highlights include the hike to Lake Märjelensee, the panoramic viewpoint trail, the spectacular UNESCO High-Altitude Trail, the suspension bridge trail from Belalp to Bettmeralp, and the walk through the ancient Aletsch Forest. Guided tours offer fascinating insights into the region’s nature and history.
Climbing, Via Ferrata & Ropes Courses
Near Lake Bettmersee, around 16 sunny climbing routes await outdoor enthusiasts. The Baschweri Rope Park – the highest in Switzerland – offers six courses and a 200-meter zip line for real adventure. Two via ferrata routes – one at the Aletsch dam and one leading up to the Eggishorn – provide secured paths with spectacular views. The offering is complemented by a bouldering gym and additional rope parks in Fiesch.
Biking
The Aletsch Arena offers biking fun for everyone: flow trails like the 3 km Wurzenbord Trail, a versatile bike park with pump track and kids’ area, and spectacular routes such as the Stoneman Glaciara – 127 km long with 4,700 m of elevation gain. E-bike tours lead, for example, from Riederalp to Lake Märjelensee. For extra fun, try the 8 km downhill scooter ride to Betten Dorf. Bikes and gear are available for rent on site.
Activities at Lake Bettmersee
Lake Bettmersee is an idyllic spot for relaxation and leisure, with views of the Valais four-thousanders. Whether it’s trout fishing, pedalo rides, beach volleyball, swimming and barbecuing, or simply enjoying a peaceful walk – everyone can find their perfect summer moment here. A true highlight is the annual Lake Festival on the last weekend of July, featuring music, dancing, and raclette under the open sky.
Tennis, Golf & More
Play a round of golf on Europe’s highest 9-hole course in Riederalp or enjoy a tennis match on Bettmeralp or at the versatile sports complex in Riederalp. In bad weather, the indoor tennis center in Fiesch offers tennis, squash, climbing, and wellness. Families will love playgrounds like Hobbyland along the Panorama Trail or the forest playground Baschweri – perfect for active outdoor fun.
Paragliding
From Fiescheralp, XC pros and leisure pilots take off at over 2,100 m, soaring above glaciers and four-thousand-meter peaks. Tandem flights start at around CHF 150 – from a short basic flight to a deluxe experience with an apéro above the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to strong thermals and car-free high plateaus, the region is ideal for both beginners and experienced pilots.
